Description
"Recommended. This is a no-frills, immediate experience of some of the different ethnic and racial groups that make up the American mosaic. The African American rodeo should be seen by everyone - so few Americans are aware of the Black presence in the far West. That this rodeo still takes place is inspiring, not only to those of African-American heritage, but to all Americans; it enriches us. Likewise, the Day of the Dead Festival is explained in an easy manner that should not intimidate young children. The skeleton masks, the sputtering candles, and the memento mori are no more than one would see on any Halloween night. The Native American Pow Wow is vivid, colorful and entertaining; it is a good introduction to the active, rich communities of Native Americans strewn throughout the United States and Canada." -EMRO Review. "Recommended. An excellent study of America's diverse cultures." -CLRN. This is an excellent program that presents various groups of Americans celebrating America's diversity. We celebrate Black cowboys in the American West at the Invitational African American Rodeo. People with Scottish and Irish ancestry celebrate their roots at the Scottish-Irish Highlands Festival. The Monte Vista Crane Festival celebrates one of nature's most spectacular migrations, where 20,000 or so Sandhill Cranes and other waterfowl migrate each year. People of Mexican heritage celebrate the Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) Festival. Lastly, Native Americans gather at a Pow Wow to honor their American Indian culture.
